It looks that Google is planning to give a material design makeover to the desktop version of Chrome. The recent Chrome update which puts the browser to version 45 has added some interesting new changes to the browser. But sadly they are not instantly visible. Instead they have been added as flags which are disabled by default.


Firstly, theres a flag which when enabled gives the Chrome toolbar a material look. All you need to do is type chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md in Google Chromes address bar and set the flag to material. Secondly, you can enable material UI for viewing PDF files by visiting chrome://flags/#enable-pdf-material-ui. Another flag lets you check out the future settings page of Chrome by visiting chrome://md-settings/. To enable this flag, type chrome://flags/#enable-md-settings on the awesome bar. Finally, a material design downloads history page awaits to be unfolded by you. Visit chrome://flags/#enable-md-downloads and enable the flag to see the material design downloads page.

As for the material design toolbar, the changes are very slight with the buttons looking more flat and material. The material UI for PDF files is really great and worth trying. It is almost completely developed and the save, print, and zoom buttons exhibit material design effects that we saw in Android Lolli The only thing missing is the loading indicator. The new Settings page of Chrome also shows a major revamp with tabs on the left and the related settings on the right. Its kind of the one we see in Firefox. Lastly, the material design Downloads page displays each download as a card and the separation between each days downloads has been made more prominent.

Although, these flags help us to peek into the future of Chrome, we must keep in mind that these are experimental features and might break or disappear anytime. They may also evolve with time and look much different in the final release. So be cautious before enabling these flags in your browser.

Dilansir Softpedia, Senin (2/9/2013), Chrome merupakan tool yang digunakan di sebagian besar wilayah dunia. Sisanya, dikuasai oleh Firefox dan Internet Explorer.

Sebagian Greenland, China, dan Afrika menggunakan Internet Explorer, sedangkan beberapa negara di Eropa, Timur Tengah, dan Afrika lebih memilih Chrome.

Adapun Internet Explorer menduduki posisi kedua browser yang paling banyak digunakan di dunia dengan pangsa pasar 25,55 persen. Firefox berada di posisi ketiga dengan pangsa pasar 19,25 persen, diikuti Safari 8,57 persen, dan Opera 1,16 persen.

Sedangkan untuk kategori versi browser, Chrome 28.0 memimpin dengan pangsa pasar 28 persen, Internet Explorer 10 dengan 11, 34 persen, dan Internet Explorer 8.0 memiliki pangsa pasar 8,27 persen. Chrome 29.0 berada di posisi keempat dengan pangsa pasar 8 persen, diikuti oleh Firefox 23 dan 22.

Google has decided to freeze non-important Flash files in its Chrome browser starting September 1. This will affect all auto-play Flash ads which will now be defaulted to click-to-play in the browser. The Flash-blocking feature was introduced earlier this year in a beta version of Google Chrome citing battery life as the main reason behind the blocking since Flash ads consumed a lot of battery juice. Disabling auto-play Flash videos could also make the web more secure.


This move will not block essential Flash content such as embedded video players which will still be allowed to run automatically. On the other hand, non-important Flash content, mostly advertisements, will be automatically paused. However, users can right-click over the freezed Flash video or ad and select "Run this" if they want to unfreeze an ad or video. Since, Google automatically converts most Flash ads placed on its AdWords network to HTML5, therefore there is no worry for such advertisers. But other sites might simply stop accepting Flash ads entirely.

Google has promoted Chrome 44 to the stable channel for Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS. The latest stable version of Chrome introduces a number of under-the-hood improvements and bug fixes. Google Chrome 44 brings multiple new apps/extension APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). Additionally, this update patches 43 critical security vulnerabilities, many of which were discovered by various external researchers and awarded by Google. Out of the 43 bug fixes, 19 were reported by people outside of Google through its Chrome bug bounty program.
